Hello! I am

Kevin Moore.

MEDICAL ENTOMOLOGIST,

DISEASE ECOLOGIST

About Me

Fieldwork Photo

I've always been drawn to the intersection of ecology, data, and infectious disease. Mosquitoes, though small, shape ecosystems, economies, and human health in profound ways. My research brings together field observations, molecular biology, and computational models to understand how Japanese encephalitis virus circulates in Australia. It's about more than just mosquitoes—it's about understanding the delicate balance between the environment, wildlife, and human health.

Experience

PhD Candidate, Griffith University, Australia

February 2022 — August 2025

• Topic - Japanese encephalitis virus transmission at Australian piggeries

• Designed and implemented novel bloodfed mosquito collection methods, gathering over 2,500 bloodfeds, including the first samples from commercial piggeries in Australia.

• Developed specialist skills spanning medical entomology, industry engagement, NGS sequencing, bioinformatics, and network modelling.

Research Assisant, University College Cork, Ireland

September 2019 — December 2021

• Topic - Development of wearable devices for Parkinson's disease care.

• Designed, analysed, and published an innovative method for comparing clinician ratings of Parkinson’s disease severity. Led a systematic review and meta-ethnography on user experience with wearable devices, resulting in a first-author publication cited over 120 times.

Masters of Public Health Student, University College Cork, Ireland

August 2017 — September 2018

• Advanced Epidemiology track - first class honours.

Research Assistant, University of Montana, USA

August 2011 — May 2015

• Callaway Plant Ecology Lab - Assisting/coordinating studies of plant interactions - Germinating, planting, harvesting, and analysing plant samples
